How to Brew Kangra Green Tea Without Bitterness
The secret to a beautiful cup of green tea lies not in brewing it longer, but in treating the leaf gently.

Kangra green tea has a delicate character, with fresh vegetal notes, a gentle woody aroma and a clean finish. But if you have ever brewed green tea that tasted too bitter or harsh, the problem may not be the tea itself. Water that is too hot, too many leaves or a long steep can change the taste of your cup. The good news? A few simple adjustments can make all the difference. 1. Start with the right water temperature Green tea does not need boiling water. Excessive heat can extract more bitter and astringent compounds from the leaves. Allow freshly boiled water to cool for a few minutes before pouring it over your tea. Ideal water temperature: 75–80°C. If you do not have a thermometer, let the boiled water rest for around 5–7 minutes in an open kettle. The actual cooling time will depend on your kettle, room temperature and water volume. 2. Measure your tea carefully Using too many leaves can make the infusion overly strong. For a balanced cup, start with: - Tea: 2 grams of Kangra green tea - Water: 200 ml - Temperature: 75–80°C - Steeping time: 2 minutes Adjust the quantity or steeping time slightly to suit your taste. 3. Keep the steep short Place the leaves in an infuser or teapot and pour the hot water over them. Allow the tea to steep for approximately two minutes, then remove the leaves or strain the infusion. Prefer a lighter cup? Try 90 seconds. Want a little more body? Extend the steep gradually, tasting as you go. Leaving the leaves in hot water for too long can make the tea taste noticeably harsher. 4. Choose fresh, clean-tasting water Water influences the final cup more than many people realise. Use fresh drinking water with a clean taste. If your tap water is strongly chlorinated or very hard, filtered water may help reveal the tea's more delicate aromas. Avoid repeatedly boiling the same water whenever possible. 5. Give the leaves room to open Whole-leaf tea benefits from enough space to unfurl and release its flavour evenly. A roomy infuser or small teapot works better than tightly packed leaves. And remember: green tea does not need milk or sugar to taste complete. Brewed gently, it can offer a naturally satisfying cup with a fresh aroma and a clean finish. At The Himalayan Tea Company, we believe a good cup does not need to be complicated. Sometimes, all it takes is good tea, the right water temperature and a little patience. Explore our Kangra Green Tea collection and find your own perfect brewing ritual.
